On December 5 at the official side event by UNFCCC “How digital technologies can support climate action” a new educational initiative for climate NGOs was announced — “Public blockchain for open sensors networks”.
Within the project Evercity and Robonomics network will provide a blockchain framework to all organizations who want to use smart meters to measure air, water and soil pollution and publish this data on blockchain. First participating NGOs will get free smart sensors, while all other organizations will receive free technical support to connect their own sensors to the network. The framework with be built with Parity substrate technology and based on DAO IPCI open source public blockchain protocol that made the first ever blockchain-based carbon credit transaction.

The side event was organized jointly by UNFCCC secretariat and Climate Chain Coalition . Moderated by the Manager of Regulatory Development Unit of UNFCCC Massamba Thioye, the panel included speakers from such industry leaders as Tom Baumann head of the Climate Chain Coalition, representatives of UN Global Pulse, Climate-KIC, Consensys, Ericsson, C40, Korea-PNG Climate Smart City Cooperation Program and Qlik.org.
